Holiday Herbal Stress Cure




It’s getting closer and closer to Christmas!  This is the time of year where the stress level increases and anxiety sets in (maybe not for everyone, but for the majority).  The season when we all have to cram even more into our already packed schedules.  No wonder 70% of women think the holidays are stressful!  But don’t fret:  Start taking the herbal supplement ashwagandha now, and you can stay calm, upbeat and even stop nervous nibbling through the new year!

It helps keep you young!  Ashwagandha lowers “bad” LDL cholesterol, reduces chronic inflammation–a leading cause of premature aging–and boosts levels of the anti-aging hormone DHEA, new research suggests.

It cuts stress-triggered irritability and anxiety-for most women within four weeks!

So reveals a study out of Maine’s Swedish Herbal Institute.  And that’s not all:  Nine out of 10 women in the study said taking 400 mg. daily also increased their energy levels by up to 85%!  Ashwagandha’s active ingredients–withanolides, alkaloids and saponins–“work together to calm the brain and nervous system, helping people function at their peak, even when surrounded by bedlam,” explains herbalist David Winston, coauthor of Adaptogens.

It blocks seasonal weight gain by cutting cortisol levels 26%!

It’s been long known that having high levels of the stress hormone cortisol stimulates the production of new belly fat.  Now scientists have proven that taking ashwagandha slows the body’s production of cortisol enough to lower blood levels of the hormone by as much as 26% in one month!

It stops insomnia by controlling stress!  

Ashwagandha’s cortisol-dampening effect is so powerful, the Swedish Herbal Institute study found that taking 200 mg. at bedtime helped 90% of study participants erase anxiety-induced insomnia within two weeks.

It banishes the winter blahs by boosting serotonin levels!

At least 35 million Americans fall into a cold-season funk because they have trouble making enough mood-boosting serotonin when sunshine is in short supply, confirms the National Institutes of Health.  Ashwagandha to the rescue!  “It contains powerful antioxidants that nourish the very brain cells that produce serotonin,” explains Ray Sahelian, M.D., author of Mind Boosters.  “Plus, it banishes many of the symptoms of depression, such as anxiety, sleep problems, loss of libido, memory lapses and more.”  Indeed, one study suggests taking ashwagandha daily until spring often eases blue moods as effectively as taking prescription and anti-anxiety and/or antidepressant medications!

For best results:

Go slow!  You only need a little ashwagandha to feel fantastic, experts say.  Start by taking 200 mg. daily* for one week.  If that’s not enough to soothe you, slowly increase the dosage to a maximum of 600 mg. daily.

Quality counts:  Choose a supplement standardized to contain at least 2% of withanolides, the active ingredient.

And so does timing:  For best absorption, take ashwagandha before meals with a full glass of water.
